What is a Marsh Tacky?

The Marsh Tacky is an endangered breed of horse native to the coastal regions of South Carolina and Georgia. Known for their resilience and ability to navigate marshy terrain, they were historically used for plantation work and cattle herding. The breed is recognized as the South Carolina State Heritage Horse and Georgia State Heritage Horse due to its historical significance and unique contribution to the region’s culture. Today, efforts are underway to preserve this rare and noble breed, ensuring that the Marsh Tacky continues to thrive for generations to come.

Does the foundation take horses of other breeds?

At this time, our foundation is solely dedicated to the preservation and care of Marsh Tacky horses. While we understand the importance of helping all horses in need, the Marsh Tacky breed is critically endangered, and our efforts are focused on ensuring its survival. The unique challenges faced by this breed require our full attention, and we believe that our resources are best spent protecting and rehabilitating these rare horses. We truly appreciate your interest in supporting the welfare of all horses, and encourage you to explore other organizations that focus on helping horses of various breeds.
